Swatch Book Vol.3 for the Textile Dye Garden 2025
In collaboration with the Textile Dye Garden, I designed the layout for their Vol.3 Swatch book, which features a range of colors from five dye flowers grown at the garden: Black-eyed Susan, Goldenrod, Cosmos, Marigold, and Hollyhock. Each dye is shown in their unmodified state, as well as with the addition of iron, citric acid, and soda ash. The book also includes three different yarns, in which the dye presents differently on, for a total of twenty natural dye colors.
The Importance of Analog Series 2024
My interest in the topic of analog concerns the idea of achieving true sustainability.
Sustainability can be defined in one of two ways, “the ability to be maintained at a certain rate or level” or “avoidance of the depletion of natural resources to maintain an ecological balance”. One of these definitions applies to our economic system, which encourages constant growth, in turn creating a culture of over-consumption. The first definition of sustainability works against the second, which explores a community-based approach to maintaining the planet. It is a commitment to the animals and plants, as well as a commitment to the people around us.
Whether or not it is a question of morals and ethics, there is no doubt that the way humans take up space on Earth has caused damage to all life, including ourselves. The problem at hand is that there is limited time to undo that damage.
I call upon students to continue to maintain an understanding of what true sustainability is, as well as ways we can push to achieve it. Throughout this book, I hope to explore how the importance of working in analog can provide one of many solutions. Analog also teaches us that “slowness” builds a steady foundation, in contrast to our fast-moving, growth-prioritized way of living. Analog not only allows us to move away from overconsumption but also to change one’s perspective of the world as a whole. The topic will be explored through interviews I conducted, found interviews, and two image interruptions that include an article and an experiment I did to better my own understanding of analog methods.

Words of the Flowers Pamphlet 2024
At the Pratt Dye Garden we seek to bring attention to natural dye processes particularly those rooted in Native American traditions that we have learned from, adapted and changed. Through doing so, we hope to cultivate a community and bring awareness to the many possibilities for collaboration with the natural world and the role it can play in art and design. This pamphlet is a collection of history, symbolism and poetry, providing a small window, through which to look, and begin to discover the magic of these plants that throughout history have been used for dyes, medicine, as a gesture of love or portrait of prosperity We hope everyone appreciates the Pratt Textile Dye Garden as much as we do!
